WHEN headteacher Helen Hebden was told her school was being given £50 it was music to her ears.
The donation - which will go towards new instruments for Broadlands Special School - was from Danielle Barnard.
The upper sixth form student at St Wilfrid's High School won the Blackburn Lions Youth Award for voluntary work in the community.
And, when asked where she wanted the cash prize to go, immediately picked the special school.
Mrs Hebden said: "Last year, Danielle was a helper here and took the children swimming every Thursday.
"It was a lovely surprise. Danielle just walked into the school with the cheque and said she wanted us to have it.
"It comes at a good time because we're about to buy some new instruments."
