AN URGENT review of Lancashire County Council's administrative costs has been called for, following the announcement that Blackburn and Blackpool are to get unitary status.
Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans, has written to county council chairman Louise Ellman, calling for immediate action. He said: "The county council should take urgent action to review the costs of bureaucracy, now that Blackburn and Blackpool have been freed to go their own way.
"The administrative costs have to be borne by the rest of the districts, including Preston, which have not been given unitary status.
"The county council now has fewer people to look after and should now have to match costs with the amount of money coming in.
"Households and people have to operate within budget, and the county council must not be allowed to exclude itself from this."
