A WRANGLE over a mosque car park is continuing - months after Blackburn Council said one of its gates had to close.
Ten people living near the car park between Walter Street and Audley Range have sent a petition to Blackburn Council claiming the owners - the Islamic Education Society - have not complied with a planning condition to permanently close the gate opening on to Walter Street.
The council gave permission for the car park on condition the gate was kept closed to stop traffic using Walter Street, which is a very narrow cul-de-sac. The council's planning and highways committee was told the council had served a breach of condition notice requiring closure, and the gates were now padlocked and appeared not to be in use.
In the meantime, the society has submitted a fresh planning application to vary the condition on planning consent and to allow the gate to be used at specified times.
It will be discussed at a future meeting of the planning and highways committee.
