CRACK Clitheroe golfers Stuart Andrew and Paul Dwyer beat their club pro, John Twissell, and his assistant, Ian Taylor, when they turned out for Lancashire in a friendly match against the county PGA at Childwall.
It was a coincidence that the pairs were drawn to face each other in the foursomes and after the professionals had lost at the final hole, Twissell quipped: "We decided on the first tee to play for 'bragging rights' in my shop. Now I'll have to live it down." Andrew and Dwyer, regulars in the Lancashire side that won the English championship and the Nothern Counties League last summer, also triumphed in their singles as their side won the inaugural match 10-7.
But Pleasington pro Ged Furey at least had the satisfaction of beating reigning Lancashire champion and England prospect Garry Boardman two and one after being two down at the turn.
The consistent Furey continued his impressive form yesterday when he shot a four under par 68 to win the final fixture in the PGA North Region Compsty Winter Series at Clitheroe.
He reeled off four birdies in six holes from the second as he finished three strokes ahead of the field.
Twissell posted 73 for a share of sixth place.
