BOGUS charity workers are claiming to be collecting goods for the NSPCC.
Residents in Hyndburn and possibly Blackburn have received notices through their doors asking them to fill dustbin liners with second-hand items, but now the East Lancashire branch of the NSPCC say they know nothing about these people and they are not from their charity.
"We have been inundated with phone calls asking why haven't we been round to collect the bags and it's giving us a terribly bad name," said Judith Hayes, area appeal manager for East Lancashire.
"We've had five black bin liners full of clothes which people have angrily thrown in here and it's really upsetting us because it may put people off helping us."
She added that trading standards officers had been informed and anyone in doubt about collectors could telephone the NSPCC on 01254 691699.
