A LANCASHIRE building society has won a top industry award.
The Chorley & District Building Society won third place in the Top Lender of the Year Awards for the lowest interest rates charged over a ten year period.
"An important point with these awards is that they are a true reflection of a lender's attitude to its borrowers over a long time," said Stephen Bullock, chief executive of the society which has offices in Leyland and Chorley. And Mr Bullock issued a broadside at some lenders who reduce mortgage rates for a short time to achieve publicity and attract homebuyers.
"Over the years we continually ensure our borrowers are paying an economical interest rate while our investors also receive the best return we can afford."
The Chorley & District also announced a reduction in its basic interest rate to 6.5 per cent.
