BURNLEY boss Adrian Heath has announced his plans to scour Europe for soccer talent after Saturday's humiliating away defeat.
But plans to bring two new faces to Turf Moor in time for the transfer deadline appeared to have fallen through.
Heath was interested in Leicester City's Jimmy Willis and Portsmouth's Carl Griffiths, but neither has shown signs of making a move.
Talented Heart of Midlothian midfielder Scott Leitch is still on trial with the Clarets, and Leeds United's Rob Bowman is another player on Burnley's list of transfer targets.
Heath said: "Ultimately you have got to find which players you want and do your best to get them. But it's not easy when you can go abroad and get a player cheaper than you can in the third division.
"I enquired about one player who had barely played a season and they were asking £600,000, which is amazing really.
"We'll explore every avenue we can. For next season we hope to bring in three or four quality players, and they won't necessarily be from this country."
Meanwhile, the Clarets are preparing for another difficult away tie against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
Injury problems are lightening, with the return to fitness of Peter Swan, Ian Helliwell and Liam Robinson - and possibly even Heath himself.
Leitch, who was turned down by rivals Blackpool, has been training with the Clarets, but no decision had been made yesterday.
Bowman, one of Leeds's most promising reserve team players, will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season. Three other Endsleigh league teams besides Burnley are said to be interested in him.
