EAST Lancashire's 'Mr Scouting', Harold Burrows, has died aged 91.
Mr Burrows, president of the East Lancashire County Scout Council, was also known throughout the area for his involvement in community organisations.
Mr Burrows, a bachelor, was found dead at his home in Dukes Brow, Blackburn.
He joined the scout movement in 1918 and later became leader of Woodlands Scouts, a position he held until seven years ago.
He was also appointed County Commissioner for Scouting and awarded the Silver Wolf medal - the highest accolade in the movement - and in 1972 he was awarded an OBE for his services to scouting.
Mr Burrows, a chartered accountant, was also a long standing member of Blackburn Rotary Club. A former Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School pupil, he was also secretary of the Old Blackburnians Association for 35 years. Bill Watson, acting chairman of the East Lancashire County Scout Council, said it had been a privilege to have known Mr Burrows.
"He was a pillar of the community and every scout who has known him will remember him with affection."
