SECOND Division Burnley are chasing Clitheroe's FA Vase hero Carlo Nash.

The Clarets have checked out the 6ft 4ins Shawbridge goalkeeper and will monitor his North West Counties' League progress until the end of the season.

Nash, who arrived at Shawbridge from Rossendale United last summer, has caught the headlines with a series of first-class performances.

And his man-of-the match display in Clitheroe's 2-0 second leg Vase semi-final victory a week ago booked the Blues' passage to the twin towers on May 12.

Nash caught the eye with two brilliant extra-time saves to keep Mangotsfield at bay and Burnley player-manager Adrian Heath confirmed today: "We've had Carlo Nash watched and we are monitoring the situation closely.

"If he continues to make progress then we would look to take it further," he added.

Lancashire rivals Blackpool and Bury and also believed to have checked out the big goalkeeper's progress since Christmas. Now the Clarets could be ready to strike and gamble on the 23-year-old goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Burnley's end of season fixture pile-up could prevent leading scorer Kurt Nogan linking up with the Wales squad for their international friendly against Switzerland on April 24.

The Clarets are due to face Bristol Rovers at Turf Moor the night before - and that could rule Nogan out of the trip to Lugano.

Heath explained: "We'll have to cross that bridge when it arrives. We'd have to see what the circumstances were at the time. It would all depend on what sort of league position we're in."
