MAKING the world a more beautiful place - fashionable fundraisers enjoyed an insight into make-overs and manicures at an evening of beauty demonstrations for the SuperScan Appeal.
Staff at Slaters Hair and Body Shop, Whalley New Road, Blackburn, organised the show and raffles, which took place at Daniels, Penny Street.
And members of Clitheroe Chamber of Trade donated the £250 proceeds of their Christmas raffle and received a bronze certificate from Brian Cushing of the Ribble Valley appeal committee.
The money is being raised to buy a £1 million lifesaving Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scanner for East Lancashire and the total for the appeal this week stands at £72,183.
Easter Monday fun and games, plus a car boot sale and raffles are planned for next week's Bank Holiday. Staff at the Cemetery Hotel, Darwen, have organised the event, which will take place at the pub in the afternoon. And the 10 penny trailblazing army is gathering strength with youngsters across Lancashire collecting tubes full of coins.
Clubs, schools, and youth groups are encouraged to get in touch with the appeal chairmen for more information. Already on the trailblazing course are: St Mary's CE School, Mellor, Mellor Brook Scouts, Lammack CP School, Woodlands Brownies, St Silas Brownies, Mellor Brook Scouts, Immanuel Guides, Brownies, Cubs and Scouts and Mr and Mrs Reidy and family.
MRI scanning can detect serious and potentially fatal conditions that escape normal diagnosis and is also excellent at pinpointing sports injuries, cartilage tears in the knee joint, bone and tissue damage and fractures not visible on ordinary x-rays.
People wishing to donate can contact the appeal chairmen: Terry Barber (Blackburn) on 01254 202495; Maureen Walker (Hyndburn) 234686; Ian Ashton (Darwen) 01200 442500 or 01254 703666; Mary Barnes (Ribble Valley) 01200 25386; Neil Beecham (Burnley) 01282 692684 or Peter Johnson (Pendle) 01282 863505.
Money can also be handed in at the main office of Queen's Park Hospital, at the Evening Telegraph offices, or over the counter at any branch of Lloyds, Barclays or TSB. DONATIONS DONATIONS banked into the account this week include:
