THE car wash ban is being lifted in East Lancashire although the hose pipe ban remains.

North West Water are lifting the non-essential use ban which has been in force in Lancashire since last year.

This comes despite another month of below-average rainfall in the region.

It means that people will be able to wash their cars using a bucket of water and also use a watering can in their gardens - but the company is still asking its customers to take care with water.

Water supply general manager Peter Birtwistle said: "The actions we have been taking to tackle the drought have enabled us to bring additional water into supply and we are determined, wherever possible, to minimise inconvenience to our customers.

"However, we have just had another very dry month and, with less than average rain forecast for April, we are asking customers to continue to be careful in their use of water."

A free booklet is available with advice on how to save water in the home and garden. Copies can be obtained by calling 0645 543210, local rate.
