A FLEDGLING engineering firm has found the cutting edge to beat the competition.

H20 Profiles, of Nelson, has patented a process which enables materials including glass and stainless steel to be cut.

It uses a revolutionary high pressure water jet technique instead of conventional laser methods.

Les Nuttall formed H20 Profiles with his brother Bob and partner Brett Cooper.

He said: "We mix an abrasive with the high powered water jet and cut materials other methods won't cut.

And the process has already been used in a wide range of applications

"Recently we've cut a type of heraldic coat of arms into stone for a customer in many different colours.

"But we also carry out more industrial tasks. We have a regular contract with Lucas to cut up glass bottles and as word gets round we're getting more and more varied work."

The firm, which is about to take on its fourth employee, has also carried out cutting work for AT of Burnley.

"We built the machinery ourselves and as far as I know we are the only company in the area carrying out the process," added Les.

H20 was formed last August and was originally based at the premises of Lynx Engineering before moving to its own factory on the Lomeshaye Industrial Estate earlier this year.
