KEEN young footballers have netted the chance of a lifetime with six weeks of professional training at Blackburn Rovers.
The unemployed young men from Blackburn Roman Road estate impressed the Safer Cities project, which is funding the team for its first season through its Youth Works scheme.
Rovers agreed to give the players six weeks training to improve existing skills.
Eight members have already gained certificates enabling them to teach basic football skills to younger members of the community, sharing their drive to succeed with other young people living on the estate.
Safer Cities co-ordinator Geoff Whitehead commented: "With this professional training, the lads will not only continue to improve their footballing skills, but will benefit from the recognition they are receiving for their wonderful team spirit.
Rovers' community officer Peter Devine, who is organising the sessions, said: "It has been a pleasure to be able to help this team. The commitment they are showing is admirable."
Now the team is on the road to success it needs a manager. Anyone who can help is asked to contact Gwilym Hall at Youth Work on Blackburn 265163.
