TRADERS in Lancashire were warned to be on the alert for suspicious packages, after a firebomb blitz paralysed Manchester.

Police sealed off part of the Arndale Centre when seven incendiary devices went off in shops in and around the massive shopping complex.

The blasts came as anti-terrorist squads were investigating the discovery of a bomb in a burning hold-all at Preston railway station.
