A NOTORIOUS jailbird who made good is to share his experience with a once-troubled council estate.
Jimmy Boyle, author of the best seller A Sense of Freedom, which was made into an internationally acclaimed film, was no stranger to being on the wrong side of the fence.
Born in Glasgow in 1944, Jimmy spent all but18 months in custody between the ages of 11 and 38.
But he turned his life around and now is recognised and respected worldwide a a talented author, playwright and sculptor.
He also helps people through community projects offering guidance and financial aid to those in real need.
Jimmy will visit Roman Road estate, Blackburn, to meet residents and talk about opportunities for a better future.
The visit has been arranged by Simon Plumb Associates, a marketing company employed by Blackburn Council to highlight improvements on the once crime-ridden estate.
"There is a lot of wonderful work being done to improve the quality of the homes and more importantly the community on Roman Road," said accounts manager Karen O'Connor.
"Jimmy recently heard of the improvement on the estate. He will be talking to residents, local public figures and the press about community life and how to look for opportunities to develop individual and community potential."
"We are honoured that he has taken time out of his busy schedule to come and talk to people on the estate."
Jimmy will meet local people at The Centurion on Higher Croft Road on April 15 at 7pm.
