DESPITE five of their players figuring in the Red Rose side that won the grand slam last year, ELGA were beaten 10-7 by the Rest of Lancs at Green Haworth on Saturday.
As expected, the match was closely fought with the Rest going into lunch with a 4-2 cushion from the foursomes.
Clitheroe's Paul Dwyer gained a commendable half in the top singles match against reigning county champion Garry Boardman of Castle Hawk.
But Preston-based Karl Wallbank, like Boardman an England prospect, crushed Nelson's Nick Uttley six and five - the day's biggest margin.
With Tony Flanagan halving with Blake Toone and his Blackburn clubmate Tony Jackson beating ex-England man Robert Bardsley, ELGA staged a spirited fightback.
Clitheroe's Stuart Andrew, Darwen's John Grimshaw and Accrington greenkeeper Trevor Foster, with an excellent last hole win against John Gallagher, piled on more points.
But the Rest had the last word, taking three of the final four ties.
