A NEW home improvement store is rising from the ashes of a DIY warehouse gutted in a £1 million blaze.

Glyn Webb is investing around £750,000 rebuilding on their Blackburn Road site close to Accrington town centre.

Work began early in the New Year and the steel skeleton of the new store has now taken shape.

Accrington will be the company's first purpose-built store and is their biggest single investment in the last two years.

A spokesman at their Oldham head office said: "While the Accrington store burning down was a major setback we are coming back bigger and better than ever.

"With it being purpose-built from scratch we are getting our ideal store and it will be a flagship for the company."

The building on two floors is expected to be completed in late May, and will probably open to shoppers towards the end of June.

There will be around 15 jobs, mostly full-time with some part-time workers.

Staff from the burned down store who switched to other Glyn Webb stores following the blaze last September will be offered a chance to come back, and jobs will be advertised locally.

Although the new building will be smaller there will be more sales space, and proper on-site parking.

The previous store traded as Glyn Webb Cash and Carry, but will reopen under the banner of Glyn Webb Home Improvement Stores.
