I SUGGEST that the three councillors for the area of King Street, Clayton Street, Freckleton Street and Byrom Street in Blackburn find time for a walk around these streets.
This area, a short distance from the town hall and town centre, is a disgrace and has been for a long time.
Start at the corner of Byrom Street and King Street (above), walk towards town on the right hand side. First, we see a decrepit building and the area in front of it filled with rotting litter.
A step or so farther along there is a mesh fence lined with rubbish.
Cross Freckleton Street and note the 'Welcome to Blackburn' sign; turn right up Heaton Street and on the left is a shrubbery whose roots are well covered with a layer of litter.
Turn left into Clayton Street and the shrubbery continues with an even worse layer of litter.
Cross over and view the prospect of the Clayton Street parking square. Some of the rubbish here would go well as a complement to the 'tin tree.'
Return to the starting point down Chapel Street. Here North West Auto must be praised - their area is always clean and tidy.
Over to the town hall, collect the booklet Green Rights and Responsibilities from the reception desk and over a hot meal read pages Five and Six.
Should it need a member of the public to bring attention to this appalling rubbish tip?
MR R ASHURST, Langdale Road, Feniscowles, Blackburn.
