JASON Heavey's excellent article on the cost of funerals (LET, April 3) reminded me of my own experience.
Having lost all my family over the last 25 years and arranged several of the funerals (mainly in south Manchester), I found it astonishing how money (even back in the Seventies) was the main criterion and not the deceased or bereaved.
It was appropriate that you used Blackburn Funeral Services as one of your prime examples, as, four weeks ago, I had the sad duty to arrange my mother's funeral and it was this company which gave unbelievable support with a discreet hint of pragmatism.
That was a huge help at the time. I cannot recommend BFS too highly and I know my mother would feel the same - and that would be high praise indeed.
