I FIND myself at variance with Lord Taylor (Letters, March 28) regarding the proposed new site for St Wilfrid's High School, Blackburn.
Is he trying to make the targeted Feniscliffe playing fields a monument to himself or trying to score a political point?
Apart from the school using the playing fields, to what extent is it now used by the children of Feniscliffe and Bower House Fold?
St Wilfrid's is grant-maintained and, therefore, can expect no support from Lord Taylor or the local council as a result of opting out of the local education authority - and making a huge success of so doing.
Yet, despite having two sets of buildings half a mile apart and despite the great difficulties this involves, they have been overcome by the governors and a dedicated and academically qualified staff who dress like teachers, not a bunch of tramps.
Doubtless the local planning authority will refuse permission for the siting of the new school at Feniscliffe and the issue will eventually have to be decided by a higher authority. I certainly hope, contrary to Lord Taylor's hopes, that permission will be granted.
H RAWCLIFFE (Mr), Grasmere Avenue, Lammack, Blackburn.
