A GROUNDBREAKING cancer support group which first began in Preston is branching out across Lancashire.
A group of voluntary therapists, dieticians and healers - part of the national organisation Gentle Support to Cancer - worked so successfully in Preston that cancer sufferers in Blackpool took a leaf out of their neighbour's book and began their own.
Breast cancer suffer Anita Hill, who runs a guest house in Blackpool set up support group called Cancervive.
She said: "I was in a lot of pain at the time but after my first visit to the Preston group all I remember was the warmth and friendliness which met me the moment I walked through the door.
"There are many people who can't travel, who may not have transport or be well enough."
Breast care advisor Barbara Moss said the group's work doesn't replace orthodox medicine.
She said: "We don't promise a magic cure, just the chance for people with cancer to feel they're in control of their lives."
