THE National Union of Teachers has warned that staff are at "breaking point."
The warning comes from Anne Waterhouse, who has just been re-elected as National Executive Member for another two years with the Lancashire and Isle of Man branch. The matter has been discussed at the NUT's annual conference in Cardiff, this week which was attended by local representatives.
Mrs Waterhouse, a teacher in Ormskirk, said: "Teachers and schools are under ever increasing pressure and it's important for the conference to debate and make decisions about how NUT members should respond to these pressures.
"There is a role for industrial action in defending principles but it is a weapon which should be used carefully and teachers in Lancashire will consider carefully the effects of any action likely to cause disruption to childrens' education.
"However, parents need to realise the situation in many schools is intolerable and many teachers are at breaking point."
