POLICE are hunting a teenage girl who threatened an 80-year-old woman with what is believed to have been an imitation handgun.
The girl called at the pensioner's home in Martin Avenue, Newton-le-Willows, at about 5.25pm on Thursday, March 28.
When the woman answered the door, she was confronted by the teenager brandishing the gun and demanding money. But the pensioner refused to be intimidated and threatened to phone the police.
The girl then fled, leaving the woman shocked and dismayed.
Police have also revealed that a girl fitting the description given by the 80-year-old was spotted in Dixon Avenue, Newton, at about 6.05pm, on Wednesday, March 27. She was calling at homes and appeared to be carrying a "toy gun."
Detective Inspector Jon Dawson of St Helens police station, said: "This was a very disturbing offence committed by what appears to be a young girl. Whilst at this stage it is believed the girl was carrying a toy gun, caution should still be exercised.
"Any offence with a firearm or imitation weapon is viewed very seriously."
The girl is described as slim, aged about 13, with long light-brown hair, which was tied back. She was wearing a white top and trousers and spoke with a local accent.
