TRAVELLERS in Whitefield are likely to be inconvenienced until the end of the year as a £300,000 road improvement scheme gets under way.
The 32-week-long scheme begins after the Easter Bank Holiday and involves the junction of the busy A56 Bury New Road and Church Lane.
The operation is to be split into two phases with the first taking around 20 weeks and the second some 12 weeks.
Phase One will involve widening of the east side to provide extra lanes for right turning vehicles in both directions.
Widening and re-alignment of Church Lane will also be carried out.
Highway drainage, street lighting and road markings will also form part of the operation.
Phase two will see the widening of the west side to provide an extra lane for vehicles turning left onto Church Lane.
It will also allow two through lanes at the traffic signals for vehicles travelling north.
