AN imaginative plan to turn scrap metal into works of art is one of the twin boroughs' green schemes for next month's BT environment week.
Students and staff at Gibfield Special School, Colne, are collecting the raw material which will be used to create eight sculptures in the school play area.
People from local training agencies will weld the models as part of a re-employment programme.
Environment week runs from May 17 to 27, and there are several other schemes in Burnley and Pendle.
Members of Padiham Forum are turning an unsightly piece of land in the town centre into a community garden. Brambles and litter will be cleared to make way for bulb and tree-planting.
A similar scheme is planned for Hapton, where a group of residents are adopting a derelict area behind their homes. After removing rubbish and old cars, they aim to transform it into an eye-catching garden.
And in Worsthorne, people are getting ready to clean up for the summer competitions, Best Kept Village and In Bloom.
