GRAHAM Fenton may well have to settle for a place on the Rovers bench against Wimbledon tonight, despite his recent scoring spree, writes PETER WHITE.
But the 21-year-old striker isn't complaining - he believes the team cause is being best served at the moment.
And a similar battle cry came from Jason Wilcox, who dismissed all thoughts of his dream England call to declare: "The only thing that matters to me is trying to get three points for Blackburn Rovers tonight."
Fenton has scored three goals as a super sub in the last two games but, unselfishly, paid tribute to Mike Newell, the man he replaced.
"I am enjoying myself, and just taking it as it comes," said the Geordie.
"Mike Newell has been playing really well. He creates so much space for other people because of the amount of running he does.
"I have no complaints about not being in the team, especially against Forest, because Mike had a big part in setting up the win. "Getting on for 20-25 minutes was good for a bit of a match fitness - and another goal!
"Obviously it would be nice to get a start but I'm not complaining. I still don't feel I am up to full match fitness."
One man who will start is Wilcox, whose comeback was crowned by a surprise England call for the Croatia game.
"It's absolutely brilliant," he said. "But my injury has taught me you can never plan ahead in this game. You can only take it day by day.
"And the most important thing for me is my club football. We want three points tonight and that is all I'm thinking about.
"After that, I can look forward to the England game and it will be a tremendous experience to be with the squad, whether I play or not."
Rovers boss Ray Harford was on his way back from Bordeaux today, after seeing multi-million pound transfer target Zinedine Zidane help the French club to the UEFA Cup final with a 1-0 win over Slavia Prague (2-0 on aggregate).
Rated one of the top talents in Europe, Zidane is expected to move at the end of the season and Rovers are keen.
Zidane will miss the first leg of the final against Bayern Munich, 2-1 away winners over Barcelona (4-3 agg) because of a yellow card. He also had a goal disallowed.
