ITAKE issue with John Blunt's article, 'Blood Boyle-ing' (LET, April 10).
As he states, there is indeed a waiting list for council properties in Blackburn. Most people however, are reluctant to accept a home on the Roman Road estate.
There can be any number of reasons for that, but I would say that it is mainly due to ill-informed public opinion. People hear bad stories about the estate - John Blunt's comment that Jimmy Boyle had better come in a car with locking wheel nuts is a case in point.
I have worked with young people on the estate for 11 months and regularly leave my car parked at various points around the estate, but have never had any problems.
Roman Road estate, in my opinion, is no worse than any other area in the town.
John Blunt' solution to the problems of Roman Road is for the Council to turf out the 'wrong 'uns.' Very simple. But - turf them out to where? Perhaps if they were moved to another area, he could then write an article in a year or so about the problem area of...Alternatively, the Council could just evict them and refuse to re-house any 'problem families.'
I am sure that John Blunt writes to provoke a response. Does he stop to consider the effect that his words may have on the people he writes about?
These views are not necessarily those of my employer, but my own.
