PRESTON played one of their worst games of the season to crash 2-1 at Cambridge on Tuesday, April 16.
A win would have all but sealed Division Two football next season, but they slipped in spectacular style.
Saville's 20th minute strike was just the tonic Gary Peters needed after his side's terrible showing on Saturday against Northampton, but yet again they failed to build on it. Cambridge dangerman Beall stunned PNE with two scorching goals.
No wonder Peters condemned his players with the scathing comment: "It was our worst performance yet."
Preston now trail the Gills by one point. Anything short of victory against Leyton this Saturday will more than likely kill North End's title chances.
