BLACKBURN'S council leader will swap the rigours of running for re-election for the strain of running the world's most gruelling race.
Coun. Malcolm Doherty, 54, will take a break from campaigning in his Mill Hill ward to pound the streets of London in the 1996 Flora Marathon.
"It's all go at the moment," said the Red Rose Roadrunner.
"I've been training all year and the andrenalin is really going now. I can't wait to start."
The energetic civic leader hopes to raise £1,000 for St Aiden's Church in Mill Hill.
