MOTORISTS are being advised to find alternative routes while a stretch of the East Lancashire Road at Golborne closes for resurfacing work this weekend.
The closure will last 36 hours from 7pm on Saturday to 6am on Monday.
The eastbound carriageway will be closed from the junction with the A49 at Lodge Lane to the junction with Stone Cross Lane, while the westbound carriageway will be closed from the Newton Road junction to the junction at Lodge Lane.
The resurfacing work will be carried out at the Golborne Island roundabout and its approach rods, including Bridge Street, Warrington Road and the East Lancashire Road itself.
Two diversions will be signposted - Lodge Lane, Warrington Road, Gerard Street, Bolton Road, Golborne Road, Ashton Road, Golborne Road, Lowton Road and Church Lane, as well as Newton Road, Southworth Road, Church Street and Ashton Road.
A council spokesman said: "The type of work involved means we can see no alternative to this closure. However we have made every effort to carry out the work at the least busy time, and complete it with as little inconvenience to the public in the shortest time possible."
