LANCASTER'S MP Dame Elaine Kellet-Bowman has been told to "mind her own business" when it comes to city council affairs.
The MP had criticised council bosses on their decision to make Cllr Janet Horner Mayor of Lancaster later this year.
She says the local Labour party have changed the rules allowing Labour Cllr Horner a second term as Mayor - she first served in the 1970s - ahead of Conservative councillors Hilda Shuttleworth and Sybil Rostron.
Now council leader Stanley Henig has responded to the claims. He told the Citizen: "I think that the Member of Parliament should mind her own business and get on with the job she is supposed to be doing.
"There are a lot of problems in Lancaster we would like her to take up - the proposed Post Office changes for example. She seems to have the time to send off faxes and letters to the Town Clerk criticising the choice of Mayor for next year when that is nothing to do with her."
Dame Elaine has told the council that she will not be attending Cllr Horner's Mayor making on Wednesday May 15.
