THE delights of Lancaster and Morecambe can now be seen across the globe thanks to the Citizen and the information super-highway. This week, thanks to your pioneering Citizen, specially designed tourist pages containing information about the area became available on the Internet for the first time. Now millions of net surfers all over the world can be instantly transported to settings such as The Ashton Memorial, Happy Mount Park or Heysham Head all at the touch of a button.
The scheme, a joint initiative between Lancashire tourist bosses and the Citizen's parent group Newsquest, will run for a one-year trial period and is expected to boost the reputation of the region world-wide.
Lancaster Tourism Officer Ron Sands said: "We are absolutely delighted with this initiative and the fact that the Lancaster and Morecambe message is being promoted all over the world.
"I am now looking to the business community of Lancaster to get in touch with me if they want to send their message around the globe."
And Lancaster Citizen Editor Greg Morgan added: "We are delighted to be involved with the tourism offices in this venture which will publicise the attractions of the region using the very latest technology. This move shows that both partners are committed to promoting the region."
The web address for the impressive tourism pages is: http://www.newsquest.co.uk/llt/lancaster/.
That service adds to the news and sport coverage updated weekly and already available on the Citizen's pages at: http://www.newsquest.co.uk/lancaster/news.
