SHE may be a fair way past her 80th birthday but Morecambe's Alice Richardson is still very much on par. Morecambe Golf Club member Alice, 87, still plays off a handicap of 30 and has recently found a bit of fame as the head of an incredible golfing family. Alice, of Oak Avenue in Bare, picked up the gauntlet laid down by a national golf magazine recently when they began searching for families with generations of female golfers.

And her amazing brood with four generations of golf-mad women ranging from Alice down to her 13-year-old great granddaughter has yet to be bettered.

Alice said: "I started playing when I was about 40 but I had always been interested in golf. When I was a little girl and we were given some money I would always buy a little golf set.

"When I saw the article I thought we can do better than that and I sent them our picture.

There can't be too many families with more players than us."

The clan starts with former Morecambe Golf Club ladies captain Alice who once played off a handicap of nine.

Next down the chain is her daughter Sheila Lennard, 64, who has a handicap of 11, and is the mother of the best of the bunch Trisha Wilson, 38, who plays off a handicap of one and has won many competitions near her home in Chelmsford.

At the other end of the scale is Alice's great granddaughter, 13-year-old Vicky Wilson, who has already been bitten by the bug and has a handicap of 32.

And just to prove that golf must be in the Richardson blood, Alice's late husband Clifford teamed up with her when they won the GS Lancashire Trophy more than 30 years ago. See picture.
