MAN for all seasons David Eyres wants to end his career at Turf Moor.
But he could have finished his season locking horns with Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish FA Cup final at Hampden Park!
Eyres revealed he was the subject of a player/swap deal with Scottish Cup finalists Hearts involving midfielder Scott Leitch during transfer deadline week.
"I knew Hearts were interested and our gaffer said that, although he wanted me stay at Burnley, I could leave if I felt the move was right.
"Scott Leitch, who played for Swindon against us on Wednesday, was on trial at Burnley and Hearts wanted me to go the other way.
"I just did not think the move was right. I decided to stay at Burnley."
Now, with Burnley winning their Division Two relegation battle, Eyres is already looking ahead to next season - wearing the claret and blue.
"I've still a year left on my contract and I would dearly love to finish my professional career at Turf Moor," admitted Eyres.
"Although we've had a difficult season this time I am convinced we can get it going again next season.
"The gaffer is very keen to bring some fresh faces in and he knows what he needs. Adrian Heath is the type of manager I want to play under.
"It could be a really big summer at Burnley. I want to be part of it."
The Clarets utility star was deployed as a man for marker against Paul Allen in the 0-0 draw at Swindon Town on Wednesday.
His switch from a familiar attacking role to a defensive one has underlined his capabilities as a valuable utility player in the Clarets squad.
"I really enjoyed the job I was given at Swindon. It was a real battle. I enjoy seeing the play in front of me and I thought I adapted reasonably well.
"Collectively we performed. As a team we defended ever so well against the best side in Division Two.
"Everybody worked as a unit and it was a great performance by everyone.
"Of course our priority is to stay in this division now. It would be a disaster if we went down. I don't think we will.
"The pressure is on Carlisle to win their last four games. They just can't afford any slip-ups.
"If we can build on our result at Swindon and come away from Notts County with something, then that could be enough."
