SCHOOLGIRL 'commuter' Anna Brazier is swapping her daily school run for a 500-mile return air trip.
Instead of the short journey to West Craven High School, Barnoldswick, and a seven-hour day at her desk, 11-year-old Anna will be flying to Heathrow and tasting corporate life for a day at a major international pharmaceuticals company.
Anna, who lives in Barnoldswick, is taking part in style in national Take Your Daughter to Work Day, being held on Thursday across the country. She has jumped at the chance to work with her father, John, who is head of information technology at a Sandoz Pharmaceuticals UK site near London.
The young 'whizz kid' will jet down to the capital from Leeds-Bradford Airport for the start of a 12-hour day. Her father will meet Anna at Heathrow and give her a taste of his working day before she wings her way back to Barnoldswick.
Mum Shirley said flying on her own poses no problems for Anna. "She is a very independent girl," said Shirley. "She's looking forward to the whole day."
Joe Bryne, head of careers at West Craven, said: "We've got a number of girls going out into the workplace to companies such as BT and Skipton Building Society, but Anna's case is a bit out of the ordinary. The event is aimed at raising the aspirations of all girls and make them realise the only person limiting them is themselves."
