Boss Heath issues his battle cry

The Burnley boss is a man in a hurry - to put enough points in the bag to assure Second Division safety, so that he can start to rebuild with real purpose.

And that will mean some experiments and a few individual futures on the line.

"I want to get the points we need as quickly as possible," he said before leaving for this afternoon's game at Notts County.

"I think all the players are aware that what has happened here clearly hasn't been good enough and we are going to have to change a few things.

"This is a club with ambition and they have to show me that they want to match that ambition.

"There are one or two people, maybe a couple of youngsters, I would also like to see have a game to show what they can do.

"Once we know we are safe, I will be in a position to do that."

Safety shouldn't be long in coming and then the manager will be able to take serious stock of what he has got, who he wants and, perhaps more to the point for the present playing staff, who he doesn't see as part of Burnley's future.

"We can't get to safety quickly enough for me" he added.

"I just want to get the points in the bag. I don't want people pointing the finger at me at the moment

"This is still very much a settling in period for me but I have plans and the sooner we are safe the sooner I can start putting things into motion."

Former Burnley star Steve Davis looks like he could be back at Turf Moor next season - but still playing for Luton.

Davis was set to return to the Luton side after suspension this afternoon but Lennie Lawrence's team are favourites for relegation from the First Division, after sinking to the bottom of the table.

Burnley's new £3.5m North Stand was granted its safety certificate yesterday by Lancashire County Council and will open for the Clarets' home game against Bristol Rovers next Tuesday.
