EURO MP Mark Hendrick has supported moves that would make it compulsory for trains to have proper disabled access.
The Labour Euro MP for Lancashire Central has also criticised the new Eurostar trains for not having better disabled facilities.
He said: "It is amazing that a state-of-the-art train, which must have cost millions of pounds to design and build, can only take two passengers in wheelchairs.
"This is a good example of where European law is needed. It would be no good getting on to the train in one country and finding you can't get off at your destination in another, so national legislation would not do; it has to be European."
