PLANNING bosses have deferred a proposed scheme for a transport and haulage depot at the former Lower Darwen Paper Mill.
The move follows strong protests from residents.
They are being backed by Rossendale and Darwen MP Janet Anderson and local councillor Simon Danczuk.
Objections from Lower Darwen Village Community Association and a petition signed by 60 people have been submitted.
SCA Transport UK Ltd wants to use the mill on Greenbank Terrace as a base for six tractor units and 15 trailers, employing 10 people.
Protesters say the road is unsuitable for heavy traffic and the extra lorries would increase traffic problems in the area.
They are also worried about noise and vibration from the lorries and the danger to pedestrians.
Councillors on the planning and highways sub-committee opted to defer a decision. They will take a closer look at the plans.
