BURNLEY need just one more win and a draw in their last three games to protect their place in Endsleigh League Division Two.
And manager Adrian Heath today issued a battle cry to his troops on the eve of their clash against Bristol Rovers at Turf Moor.
"We're nearly there and we can almost finish it all off tomorrow night," he said.
Carlisle entertain York and if Burnley win and the Cumbrians don't safety will be assured.
"Let's get the points we need and then concentrate on the important rebuilding period ahead."
Carlisle lost 1-0 away to Brighton on Saturday.
And after holding Second Division champions Swindon and fourth-placed Notts County to successive away draws, Heath is confident that Burnley can put the pressure firmly on Carlisle to win every game.
"For the last three or four games the players' attitudes have been magnificent," said Heath.
"If we continue to play like that we'll be all right.
"In two games we've just drawn with the divisional champions and the team currently placed fourth.
"And with a bit of luck we could have turned those results into victories.
"We're defending well and we aren't conceding goals.
"The system has been changed and we're working hard on defending as a group.
"We're not perfect by any means but we're getting better. The players are starting to understand how I want them to play."
Heath was particularly satisfied with Saturday's spirited performance at Meadow Lane in which Peter Swan scored his fifth goal as a Claret, all of which have been from set pieces.
"I was a little disappointed really that we didn't win the game," said Heath. "Swannie gave us a perfect start with his goal but we just didn't manage to keep it to 1-0.
"They do put you under pressure and get plenty of people forward in the box.
"But for most of the afternoon we kept them comfortably at bay.
"I'm very pleased with the response of the players.
"Several weeks back I wasn't, and some of them shouldn't have played for two or three weeks.
"But they had to be picked because there wasn't adequate cover.
"Obviously, that is something I want to change for next season.
"Competition for places is important.
"Far too many players' knew they'd get a shirt on a Saturday whatever.
"But as soon as we get some new blood in, players performances will justify whether they stay or go."
The Burnley A team defeated Marine 2-0 at Gawthorpe in the Lancashire Football League First Division. Phillip Eastwood and Tom Mutton were the scorers.
The B team beat Tranmere Rovers 1-0, Lee Richardson grabbing the vital goal.
