I AM very concerned that Chorley Council is not touring the villages of the borough, except in the case of Adlington, to enable pensioners to pick up their bus or rail passes. This may make things very difficult for residents of Riley Green, Gregson Lane, Hoghton and Brindle (above).
The village of Adlington, adult pop 4,420 and home of Chorley Council's Deputy Leader (Labour) had a three-day session.
But Anderton, Anglezarke, Astley Village, Bretherton, Brindle, Charnock Richard, Clayton-le-Woods, Coppull, Croston, Cuerden, Eccleston, Euxton, Heapey, Heath Charnock, Heskin, Hoghton, Mawdesley, Rivington, Ulnes Walton, Whittle-le-Woods and Withnell had no visits.
The adult population of these villages totals 44,116 - or 60 per cent of Chorley Borough's population.
I believe that the Council should immediately institute a well-advertised 'road show' around the villages, using a mobile vehicle if necessary. Alternatively, they should send a leaflet to every household to enable elderly folk to apply for the passes by post.
In the meantime, OAPs can telephone the council on 01257 265611 to ask for their pass by post.
