A CAR crashed into a chip shop just 10 minutes before a crowd of schoolchildren would have been queuing there.
The drama happened at York Street, Accrington, after a Volvo was in collision with another car then demolished a drainpipe and hit the stone upright at the shop's front door.
Chip shop owner Susan Wilkinson was in the kitchen when she heard a loud bang.
She said: "I thought my shop had fallen down."
Christine Abbott was working behind the counter and her boyfriend was sitting on the windowsill.
Mrs Wilkinson said: "I heard Christine squeal. I went in and there was a car embedded in the stone support of my door.
"It was just about touching the door but hasn't damaged the door.
"Ten minutes later that corner would have been full of schoolkids.
"It churned my stomach the thought of any kids being there. Ten minutes later it could have been a tragedy.
"I'm just pleased nobody was hurt."
The Volvo driver shaken but unhurt and the driver of the Cavalier was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
