GREEN-FINGERED residents are feeling blue after council workmen mowed down a patch of wild flowers on a specially-created grassed area next to their homes.
People living in Duke Street, Winewall, Colne, helped create a wildlife garden at the end of the street, planting bluebells, silver birch trees and a hedgerow.
But now Pendle Council workmen have mowed back the grass, and the bluebells, put a gash in one of the trees and shredded part of the hedge, according to local resident and environmentalist Judy Yacoub.
"I had asked the mowers not to come onto the green area apart from a couple of times a year when the bulbs weren't out."
Judy has written to the council's parks manager Fred Stewart expressing her dismay at the damage that has been caused.
Mr Stewart said he had not received the letter and was not aware of the problem. He said he could not comment on the matter.
