CLITHEROE professional Jonathan Fielding has warned explosive Read: 'Don't expect to break any more club records this weekend'.

New Read professional Saeed Anwar smashed an incredible 152 off 102 balls against Whalley in last weekend's Vaux Ribblesdale League programme.

But Fielding and his team-mates have already masterminded a plan of attack or - to be more accurate - defence.

"We will try to keep it off his legs. All our medium pacers have to do is bowl the right line.

"I have to concentrate on bowling well because, if the wicket is slow and turning, no-one should score that quickly as it is difficult to get the spinner away.

"The Clitheroe ground is also a lot bigger than the Read pitch," said Fielding.

And the young off-spinner, recently on the Lancashire staff, is predicting his side will spring a few surprises this season.

"I think we have the best batting side in the league.

"I played with collapsed arches in my feet last season but I am fully fit now and bowling better than ever.

"We have no excuses this season.

"We should have won last week against Great Harwood but we dropped Matthew Cheesbrough and he went on to score 50. We were quoted at 33-1 for the league and a few of our lads have had quite a few quid on us."

Fielding has already had trials with Worcestershire and Gloucestershire and is expected to be asked to play for the second elevens.

And, with three new signings - Mark Bolton from Salesbury and Paul Collinson and Steve Whalley from Fulwood and Broughton - the squad is considerably stronger.
