AS a local historian, I have come across this photograph of Higher Walton String Band, taken, I believe, outside All Saints' vicarage, Higher Walton, about 1912-13.
I would like to believe that the lady and gentleman sitting at the centre are William and Alice Ferrier, parents of the world-famous Blackburn contralto, the late Kathleen Ferrier.
As Mr Ferrier, who was master of All Saints School from 1903-1913, was later headmaster of St Paul's Boys School in Blackburn, I wonder if - even after all this time - any former pupil remembers his appearance and may be able to confirm that it is he and his wife in this picture.
