THE Clarets Reserves played their last home game of the season last night against promotion hopefuls Aston Villa.
In a game of few chances, Derek Adams and John Borland both tested Oakes in the Villa goal before trialist Steven Parmenter broke from the halfway line to hit a fierce drive which went inches wide of the post.
Aston Villa pushed for all three points in the second half, which they needed to keep their promotion hopes alive, but some strong Clarets defending gave their strike force little opportunity.
Trialist Parmenter nearly stole all three points for the Clarets just after the hour mark after John Borland had headed a Taylor cross into the path of the ex-QPR man, but his shot on the turn beat Oakes in the Villa net and went just wide of the target.
Burnley: Russell, Taylor, Heffernan, Flint, Davies, Duerden, Adams, Borland, Parmenter, Eastwood (Carr-Lawton), Bowden.
