THE vicar of Feniscowles, the Rev John Cree, has appealed for calm on a Blackburn council estate.

He said he had been knocking on doors in the Princess Gardens area, to seek people's views on the problems.

Mr Cree said: "From what I've heard in the last few days, there does now appear to be a sense of calm on the estate and I would like to ask people to keep this up.

"There have been problems, but everyone within the community is working to solve them.

"The list of children's names that was circulated was a terrible thing, particularly as some of the youngsters should never have been on there.

"The whole situation has got out of hand. Nobody is denying we have had problems, even with drugs, but it's on a very, very small scale compared to other areas of Blackburn.

"People have been deflated and I think the talk of vigilante groups came about before we had this current sense of calm.

"The way forward now is to talk things through amicably and peacefully with people from all sides of the argument.

"I would eventually like to see a community committee group formed and the introduction of a youth worker for the area."
