BLACKBURN's Witton Park Arena is set to stage a piece of athletics history next month with the return to the track of Great Britain's exiled star Diane Modahl.

The Sale Harrier has not raced on a track since August 19th 1994, when she was pulled out of the Commonwealth Games in Victoria, shortly before she was due to defend her 800 metres title.

Alleged to have failed a drugs test in Lisbon 10 weeks earlier, she was initially banned for four years.

The battle to clear her name finally ended last month when the IAAF agreed to drop charges. Husband and coach, Vicente Modahl confirmed that he has arranged for Diane to run the 400 metres in a low-key Open Meeting at Blackburn on Wednesday, May 15.

"Diane has suffered with a slight back injury, but I feel she will be ready for the Blackburn race. As she intends to contest the Olympic Trial in June, we need to overcome the psychological hurdle of the first track race," said Vincente.
