THE Textile Time Tunnel at Oswaldtwistle Mills has been officially opened by Hyndburn MP Greg Pope.

It covers 300 years of the cotton industry at Moscow Mill and is the newest attraction at the shopping and leisure complex.

The walk-through exhibition includes a typical handloom weaver's cottage, and a replica of The Spinning Jenny invented by James Hargreaves, an ancestor of the present owners of Moscow Mill.

It tells the story of the industrial revolution and the riots of 1826, showing the handloom weavers' anger against the dreaded power loom.

The tunnel ends with a glimpse into today's weaving shed where some of the fastest looms in the world weave some of the finest fabrics available in the UK.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Hyndburn, Coun Jean Battle, local historians, and staff and pupils from Rhyddings High School who worked on the project.
