REGARDING the proposed planning application by St Wilfrid's to build a new school on Feniscliffe playing fields, Blackburn, I attended the residents' meeting on April 3, but felt that important questions were not answered satisfactorily.

Although we have the full support of the councillors who were present, they made it clear that, even if the application is refused, there is a right of appeal to the Secretary of State.

The questions which remain unanswered are: When ownership of the land was passed over to St Wilfrid's, why were the rights of the residents of Feniscliffe and Bower House Fold not represented?

We were not given the opportunity to oppose the transfer. Does this mean that our rights in Feniscliffe playing fields have been completely extinguished?

Why were residents not informed? What were St Wilfrid's intentions when they took over ownership of the land; did they have the support of Lancashire County Council to build this school on this site in the future?

If the school went grant-maintained in September, 1993, why have the legal formalities still not been completed?

I want the councillor for our ward who was present at the meeting to answer these questions.

T ANSBRO (Mr), Feniscliffe Drive, Feniscliffe, Blackburn.
