AN excellent performance, with senior players sparkling in all departments, saw Rovers Reserves to a convincing win at Ewood last night.
But the game was on something of a knife edge until the last 15 minutes when Rovers emphasised their superiority by adding to Matty Holmes' superb early strike.
Holmes fired home from outside the penalty area in the 18th minute. But, for the rest of the half, a packed Tranmere defence and goalkeeper Martin Jones defied all other attempts.
The visitors staged a rally at the start of the second half but Rovers, marshalled by Nicky Marker, soon got back on top.
Graham Cassin hit a post before Paul Warhurst crowned a good display with a well-taken goal in the 75th minute.
Lars Bohinen was enjoying himself in midfield and a third arrived three minutes later when Wayne Gill raced through the gaps in the Tranmere defence to hold his nerve and easily beat the keeper.
ROVERS: Mimms, Hitchen, Marker, Tallon, Croft, Gill, Bohinen, Holmes, Whealing, Warhurst, Cassin.
